TEAM JUVO

The Gripping Tool

2019 - 2020

Team Juvo at Virginia Tech created an assistive device for the Subject Matter Expert (SME), Parker Barrett, to use in his workplace as a defense contractor. Mr. Barrett was born with a hand deformity and underwent reconstructive surgery which allowed him to use two fingers on each hand. The device, named the Gripping Tool, designed by team Juvo is a writing utensil attachment that allows Mr. Barrett to write and draw with greater ease and comfort. The Gripping Tool, was thoroughly tested quantitatively and qualitatively with the SME to prove that it reduces strain and fatigue and improves accuracy while drawing.
